Chess



The chess is a board game, but it is recognized as a sport, since many competitions are held every year, either regionally or internationally. In the Canary Islands there is the Federation of Chess Canaries, where competitions are held at both municipal and regional level.
Chess masters usually come to give a master class, where they will learn more advanced concepts.




The history of the chess:




The history of chess can be traced back nearly 1500 years, although the earliest origins are uncertain. The earliest predecessor of the game probably originated in India, before the 6th century AD; a minority of historians believe the game originated in China. From India, the game spread to Persia. When the Arabs conquered Persia, chess was taken up by the Muslim world and subsequently spread to Southern Europe. In Europe, chess evolved into roughly its current form in the 15th century.

-Basic Concepts:
The name of the pieces.


















First, before to play you should know that the chessboard it is placed just like that:
Low corner white on the right, YES

Low corner black on the right, NO


-Movements: 

-Pawn:




The pawn is a piece that only moves forward, the pawn capture diagonally, when the pawn reaches the end of the board, it is said that " crown" and you can choose any other piece instead.
-Bishop:







The bishop moves diagonally and captures in the same way. There are two bishops in each team, one moving through the white squares and the other moving through the black.



-Knight:




The horse moves in an "L" shape as seen in the image. It is the only piece that can jump to the other pieces.



-Rook:



The tower moves vertically and horizontally.



-Queen:

The queen moves vertically, horizontally and diagonally, is the most important piece without the  King.



-King:


The king moves in the same way as the queen, but always advancing a square. This is the piece that there is to eliminate to win the game with checkmate.






Magnus Carlsen:



Is a Norwegian chess grandmaster and the current World Chess Champion. A chess prodigy, Carlsen earned his grandmaster  title at the age of 13 years and 148 days..Carlsen was introduced to chess at the age of five and played in his first tournament at the age of eight. He earned his grandmaster title in 2004 and was competing successfully against the world's strongest grandmasters by 2007.

Carlsen became World Champion in 2013 by defeating Viswanathan Anand. In the subsequent year, he retained his title against Anand, won both the 2014 World Rapid Championship and World Blitz Championship, thus becoming the first player to simultaneously hold all three titles, and reached a peak rating of 2882, the highest in history. In 2016, he defended his title against Sergey Karjakin.
